Larry E. Huber, 50, of 1015A Elm St., Cleveland, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, March 22, 2006, at his home. He was born Sept. 12, 1955, in Sheboygan, son of the late Ernest and Catherine "Betty" Nick Huber. He was a 1973 graduate of Howards Grove High School. Larry continued his education receiving an Associate Degree in Fire Science in 1975 from Fox Valley in Appleton. He obtained his B.S. degree in vocational education from UW-Stout and an EFO Degree from National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg, Md. On Sept. 3, 1978 he married Jennifer Beyer at St. John's Lutheran Church, West Bend. Most recently Larry had been coordinator of Fire and EMS Service at LTC, Cleveland. Prior to his job at LTC, he was training commander for the City of Sheboygan; he was the first intern with the Fitchburg Fire Department from 1975-76, fire chief for the Fire Department at Fitchburg from April 25, 1983, until Oct. 31, 1995, and was captain of fire prevention from 1978-83 for the Town of Menasha Fire Department. He also was an instructor at MATC, Madison from 1977-78, an EMT with Gold Cross Ambulance Service, Appleton, for five years after obtaining his EMT license at the age of 16. Through the years he was affiliated with numerous other fire departments, including Grand Chute, Franklin, St. Nazianz, Ada and was currently an active firefighter with the Cleveland Fire Department. Larry was a member of Wisconsin State Fire Chiefs Association, where he was on the Board of Directors from June 1991-June 1995 and served as president of the association from 1993-1994. He also was a member of Dane County Fire Chief's Association from 1983-95, serving as president from 1992-93, served on the Dane County 911 Committee, was instrumental in securing state funding for the regional Hazmat teams, a member of Dane County LAPC, Southern Wisconsin and Northern Illinois Fire Fighters Association, International Association of Fire Chiefs, instructor for the EMI Institute at the National Fire Academy, Emmitsburg, Md. and active member of Wisconsin Society of Fire Instructors and Wisconsin Fire Investigators Society. Larry was a member of the Kiel Municipal Band for many years and was a member of Memorial UCC in Fitchburg. Survivors include his wife: Jennifer; two children: William Huber, Madison, Katherine Huber, Seattle, Wash.; three sisters: Darlene (Ken) Draheim, New Holstein, Carolyn (Wayne) Jolin, Rhinelander, Cheryl (Gene) Spindler, Menasha; his mother-in-law, Marjorie Beyer, West Bend; two sisters-in-law: Barb (Al) Lutringer, Rochester, Minn., Chris (Brian) Laine, Arlington, Wash.; and two goddaughters: Mary Thome and Heidi Krieghoff. He is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, four aunts, one uncle and many friends. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, March 27, 2006, at St. John's UCC, 2111 Church St., New Holstein, with Rev. James Werner, pastor, and Pastor Barry Hoerz, chaplain of the Wisconsin State Fire Chiefs Association, officiating. Friends may call at the Meiselwitz-Vollstedt Funeral Home, 815 Sixth St, Kiel, on Sunday (TODAY), March 26, from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. and at the church on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.
